Lover of horses.

The apostle; formerly of Bethsaida (John 1: 44); mentioned along with Bartholomew (Matt. 10: 3; Luke 6: 14; see also John 1: 43-46; John 6: 5, 7; John 12: 21-22; John 14: 8-9).

One of the seven; an evangelist (Acts 6: 5; Acts 21: 8); preaches at Samaria, and to the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8); entertains Paul (Acts 21: 8).

Son of Herod the Great and Mariamne; first husband of Herodias (Matt. 14: 3; Mark 6: 17; Luke 3: 19). See Herod.

Another son of Herod, tetrarch of Trachonitis (Luke 3: 1), founder of Caesarea Philippi.
