Generally refers to the time before this mortal life-that is, the premortal life. Sometimes Jesus Christ is referred to as the Beginning.

Christ is the beginning and the end, D&C 19: 1. The new and everlasting covenant was from the beginning, D&C 22: 1. Man was in the beginning with God, D&C 93: 23, 29. Noble and great spirits were chosen in the beginning to be rulers, D&C 138: 55. Mine Only Begotten was with me from the beginning, Moses 2: 26.
