In the New Testament, a righteous ruler of the Jews (probably of the Sanhedrin) and a Pharisee (John 3: 1).

He spoke to Jesus at night, John 3: 1-21. He defended Christ to the Pharisees, John 7: 50-53. He brought spices to Jesus' burial, John 19: 39-40.
