Restoration of the Gospel
See also Apostasy; Dispensation; Gospel; Smith, Joseph, Jr.

God's reestablishment of the truths and ordinances of his gospel among men on earth. The gospel of Jesus Christ was lost from the earth through the apostasy that took place following the earthly ministry of Christ's Apostles. That apostasy made necessary the restoration of the gospel. Through visions, the ministering of angels, and revelations to men on the earth, God restored the gospel. The Restoration started with the Prophet Joseph Smith (JS-H 1: 1-75; D&C 128: 20-21) and has continued to the present through the work of the Lord's living prophets.

The Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, Isa. 2: 2 (Micah 4: 2; 2 Ne. 12: 2). God will do a marvellous work and a wonder, Isa. 29: 14 (2 Ne. 25: 17-18; D&C 4: 1). God shall set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed, Dan. 2: 44. Elias will come, and restore all things, Matt. 17: 11 (Mark 9: 12; D&C 77: 14). There will come times of restitution of all things, Acts 3: 21 (D&C 27: 6). In the dispensation of the fulness of times, God will gather together in one all things, Eph. 1: 10. I saw another angel, having the everlasting gospel to preach, Rev. 14: 6. The fulness of the gospel will come unto the Gentiles, 1 Ne. 15: 13-18. The Jews shall be restored to the true church, 2 Ne. 9: 2. In the latter day shall the truth come, 3 Ne. 16: 7. Upon you I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, D&C 13: 1 (JS-H 1: 69). I have committed the keys of the kingdom for the last times, D&C 27: 6, 13-14 (D&C 128: 19-21). Gather together the tribes of Israel and restore all things, D&C 77: 9. The keys of this dispensation are committed, D&C 110: 16 (D&C 65: 2). The priesthood is given in the dispensation of the fulness of times, D&C 112: 30. I saw two Personages, JS-H 1: 17. I will reveal unto you the priesthood, by the hand of Elijah, JS-H 1: 38 (Mal. 4: 5-6).
