The process of and means for taking care of people's spiritual and temporal needs.

Open your hand wide to thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy in thy land, Deut. 15: 11. He that giveth to the poor shall not lack, Prov. 28: 27. Is this not the fast that I have chosen? to give thy bread to the hungry, to bring the poor into thy house, Isa. 58: 6-7. I was hungry and ye gave me meat; I was a stranger and ye took me in. When you do it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me, Matt. 25: 35-40. Administer your substance to him that stands in need, Mosiah 4: 16-26. They gave to one another temporally and spiritually according to their needs and wants, Mosiah 18: 29. They were commanded to join in fasting and prayer for the welfare of those who did not know God, Alma 6: 6. Pray for your welfare and for the welfare of those around you, Alma 34: 27-28. They had all things common among them, 4 Ne. 1: 3. Remember the poor, D&C 42: 30-31. Visit the poor and needy, D&C 44: 6. Remember in all things the poor and needy, D&C 52: 40. Wo to you rich who will not give your substance to the poor, and wo to you poor who are not satisfied, who are greedy and will not labor, D&C 56: 16-17. In Zion there were no poor among them, Moses 7: 18.
