Instructions, commandments, or a message from God. God's children may receive his word directly by revelation through the Spirit or from his chosen servants (D&C 1: 38).

By every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live, Deut. 8: 3 (Matt. 4: 4; D&C 84: 43-44). Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path, Ps. 119: 105. They were all filled with the Holy Ghost and spake the word of God with boldness, Acts 4: 31-33. The iron rod was the word of God that led to the tree of life, 1 Ne. 11: 25 (1 Ne. 15: 23-25). Ye were past feeling, that ye could not feel his words, 1 Ne. 17: 45-46. Wo be unto him that rejecteth the word of God! 2 Ne. 27: 14 (2 Ne. 28: 29; Ether 4: 8). Press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, 2 Ne. 31: 20 (2 Ne. 32: 3). Because of their unbelief they could not understand the word of God, Mosiah 26: 3 (Alma 12: 10). They had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God, Alma 17: 2. Try the virtue of the word of God, Alma 31: 5. Alma compared the word of God to a seed, Alma 32: 28-43. Whatsoever they speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost shall be the word of the Lord, D&C 68: 4. Live by every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God, D&C 84: 44-45. Whoso treasureth up my word shall not be deceived, JS-M 1: 37.
