A sacred title referring to a man who has begotten or legally adopted a child.

Honor thy father and thy mother, Ex. 20: 12 (Deut. 5: 16; Matt. 19: 19; Mosiah 13: 20). A father will correct a son in whom he delights, Prov. 3: 12. Fathers, provoke not your children to wrath, Eph. 6: 1-4. I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father, 1 Ne. 1: 1. My father was a just man-for he taught me, Enos 1: 1. Alma prayed for his son, Mosiah 27: 14. Alma gave commandments to his sons, Alma 36-42. Helaman named his sons after their forebears, Hel. 5: 5-12.
